<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article considers the industry estimates of the USSR of the late socialist period contained in the works of foreign economists. Particular attention is paid to the sovietological interpretations of the state of the USSR industrial sector as well as the economic policy of Soviet leadership in generating growth of industrial production, development of the Eastern regions of the country, innovation and modernization of fixed assets. The author concludes that the studies conducted by foreign scientists make it possible to clarify the assessment of the industrial sector of the Soviet Union before Perestroika and to adjust the estimates of economic development of the USSR of the “Brezhnev Era”.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>плановая экономика</kwd><kwd>модернизация</kwd><kwd>основной капитал</kwd><kwd>промышленность</kwd><kwd>советологи</kwd><kwd>экономический потенциал</kwd><kwd>экономическая политика</kwd><kwd>«эпоха застоя»</kwd><kwd>СССР</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>planned economy</kwd><kwd>modernization</kwd><kwd>fixed assets</kwd><kwd>industry</kwd><kwd>sovietologists</kwd><kwd>economic capacity</kwd><kwd>economic policy</kwd><kwd>«era of stagnation»</kwd><kwd>USSR</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Дроздов В.
